Electoral management bodies from member countries of the Economic Community of West African States and the South African Development Community will from April 9 converge on Abuja to discuss ways of improving future elections through the use of technology.

In a statement by Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, it was revealed that the international conference would bring together experts across all fields especially the Information and Communications Technology industry, with a view to reducing problems associated with conducting elections across the regions.

The statement said, “The international conference will see participants deliberate on several issues associated with the choice and deployment of ICT in elections, with a view to deepening collaboration among electoral management organisations and strengthening the credibility of electoral processes across both regions.

“The Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, and other notable personalities are expected to engage participants on various key issues that will help improve the way elections are organised across both regions during the conference.”
